Community foundation accepting applications for spring grants

BELLEVILLE, Kan.—The Republic County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for spring grants. Online applications are due Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

Last spring, the Ag Ed instructor at Pike Valley identified a need for a small engines course to meet student interest and skills. “Our district has many students interested in mechanically driven career interests, such as engineering, ag technology, programming, and mechanical operations,” said grantee Katie Carlgren.

Thanks to a grant from the community foundation, the students of Pike Valley Jr/Sr High School will have opportunities to explore mechanics and engineering through the Briggs and Stratton Small Engines Training and Educational Kit. “We will be able to use these supplies and curriculum for several years and it will have an impact on many students. Many of those students will be inspired to pursue a career or field related to mechanics,” said Carlgren.

This spring $118,000 is available to charitable projects in Republic County. This cycle will fund local community projects that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Projects that improve the quality of life for Republic County residents.
  • Projects that address education, health care, community social services and security, conservation and environment, arts and culture, and community beautification.
  • Projects that support public health programs that support and encourage healthy living across Republic County.

Funding for the spring grant cycle is provided by the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, the Republic County Community Action Fund and the Public Health Funds. Grants are limited to communities in Republic County and will be awarded through a competitive application process. Nonprofit organizations, government and public entities, educational institutions and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on April 15. Funding guidelines and the grant application are available at http://republiccountycf.org/search-apply-for-a-grant/.
